GREAT WEEKEND - GREAT FRIENDS - GREAT FOOD

This past three day weekend I was 100% Amy again and all go-go-go.  It felt great reconnecting with friends and enjoying myself.

On Saturday afternoon Jeff and I headed to Ann's Wig Shop and bought the one Nikki and I picked out a few weeks ago (see option three under "Wig Shopping" on the left).  We had a little scare when she couldn't remember which one it was.  I tried on a few before she went to the back room and found it.  Whew!  It was hard for her because we were looking for the wig that looked like "Amy" and with all the crazy things I've been doing lately to my hair, I don't look much like "Amy" anymore.  LOL  We bought the wig and a cute knit hat.  I really hope I'm more comfortable in hats and scarves than the wig.  We'll see.

While we were there Jeff reminded me that this summer I will need a scarf to wear under my motorcycle helmet.  He's already picked out just the right one at Bud's.  Oh boy.

Saturday evening I went to dinner with my BFF Laura little sister Nikki.  We celebrated Nikki's birthday and then went earring shopping.  I needed some *bling*bling* to go with my bald head!  Hey, any excuse is a good excuse for new jewelry.  Oh yeah, and I got another cute hat.
 
Sunday after church Ashley (another BFF of course!) took me shopping for home decor.  She had asked me last week while I was recovering from Chemo what she could do for me.  At the time I was laying on the couch  upset with myself for living here three years and still not decorating.  I asked her to design on my dime and she delivered!  Good thing the weekend ended before I spent any more money!  I will smile and think of Ashley as I'm planted on couch this coming weekend when I go through it again.

Monday my BFFs first included Grace, Abby, and their BFF Chaney.  We stuffed ourselves at McDonalds, loaded up withe candy at MotoMart, and then took in a movie.  Then, in the evening I had a nice relaxing adult meal with some yummy seafood pasta, wine, and two lovely ladies, Cathy and Debbie.

Boy, there is no blaming Chemo for any weight gain this weekend!  I had a great time and really needed that.  Thanks everyone.

CHEMO #2 IS HISTORY...AND SO IS MY HAIR 2/26/12 Is it the drugs or the emotional journey that is making me feel so unbalanced?  I'm teetering on the edges of consciousness and sleep, sober and drunk, together and in pieces.  I'm ready for this weekend to be over so I might capture some of the normalcy again.  But I have to wonder how long I can keep coming back to normal before normal isn't there anymore.  My life just isn't the same anymore. ZEROING IN ON THE TUMOR BED Yesterday was my last all-over radiation treatment and today they started to zoom in on just the tumor bed.  Rather than covering my whole breast, underarm, and part of my chest, it just covers a baseball size circle around the area where the cancer was removed. Before the machine fired from above me on the right, down across my breast and out my underarm, and then moved to below me on the left, up through my underarm and breast.  I found a graphic that shows exactly what the all over treatment looked like.  This picture is even for the left breast, just like me. Today it was aimed just inches away from my breast and fired straight down on it.  This made me nervous because I remember the doctor saying that they try to aim away from the lungs.  I guess that is what they did the first 26 times, but there is no way they are missing it now! OLD AMY, MEET NEW AMY... It's all starting to blur together now.  I don't remember one radiation treatment from the other.  I'm stuck in the movie Groundhog Day! Park in the same spot and walk in quickly (because I'm usually running late) Smile at the clerk who waves me on to the dressing room Put on a smock and hide my keys under my clothes - don't even bother to hang them on the hook Follow the tech to the machine Line my butt up with the top of the pad Take my arm out of my smock and put it above my head Focus on the ceiling pictures while she draws lines on my chest and boob Count to 30 while the machine buzzes, then moves to the other side and count to 30 again Wait for her to come back in, get up and follow her back to the dressing room Put on my shirt and pitch my smock in the laundry Turn off the lights and leave the room (I'm the last patient of the day) The whole process takes just 10 minutes and I've done it 25 times so far.  J
